How should I prepare for cataract surgery?
Follow Dr. Gadlin’s instructions to prepare for cataract surgery. You might have to avoid foods and drinks 12 hours before your scheduled procedure and stop taking some medications. Arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home afterward. You might also need to use antibiotic eye drops for a day or two before your surgery.
What should I expect during the procedure?
During cataract surgery, you receive eye drops to dilate your pupil and a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. You also have the choice of sedation to help you relax.
Dr. Gadlin removes the clouded lens from your eye and usually replaces it with a clear artificial lens. The procedure usually takes an hour or less, and you can go home the same day.
What happens after cataract surgery?
Follow your surgeon’s instructions after undergoing cataract surgery. Your vision should improve over the next few days, but you might feel temporary itching or tenderness. Avoid rubbing your eye during the healing process, and wear an eye shield or patch for a few days.
